Plymouth Utilities Republishes 1929 Report
Plymouth, WI – 2020 is the 10th anniversary of the Plymouth Common Council adopting resolution number 18 of 2010 reaffirming the City of Plymouth’s support of continuing to own and operate a municipal electric utility. Plymouth Utilities was established in 1901 and will celebrate its 120th anniversary in 2021. In advance of these two important milestones, Plymouth Utilities republished a 1929 report titled “Resume of Data Relative to the Financial Expansion and Physical Growth of a Municipal Utility.” The report provides the historical context for the who, what, where, when, and why the City of Plymouth invested in and created a municipal electric and water utility. In 1901, the controversial decision of owning and operating a municipal utility was a major leap of faith. The historical roots of Plymouth Utilities help remind us why a community owned and operated non-for-profit municipal utility services the best interest of our citizens and customers.
