Bicycle Patrol

The bicycle patrol unit began in 1995 with one police mountain bike and three officers. Since then, The Police Department has taken an aggressive approach to this very effective patrol tool and added more bicycles and officers to the unit.

The officers on Bicycle Patrol are utilized on all three shifts and during special events. They concentrate their patrols on the downtown area as well as the parks and areas hard to patrol by car. The bicycle may also be used to patrol residential areas that are prone to thefts from vehicles and outlying businesses.

All of the officers assigned to the Bicycle Patrol Unit complete a 24 hour Police Mountain Bike training course, certified by the Law Enforcement Bicycle Association. Officers also received additional in-house training each year.
