Police & Fire Commission

The responsibilities of the Police and Fire Commission include, but are not limited to:  Conduct original entrance exams for Police & Fire Dept. job applicants and to prepare an eligible list of candidates, to conduct open exams for specialized or supervisory positions when such positions cannot be filled to advantage by promotion, and to appoint the Chief of each department.

The Commission is comprised of five citizens with no more than three belonging to the same political party.  The Mayor appoints one candidate annually for a term of five years.
